Dave & Buster's - Southern California

Ok. I've grouped the San Diego, Irvine, and Orange locations since they have virtually identical restrooms.

The restrooms at D&B have some great touches, but the experience is missing a few important elements.

First the good. In keeping with the restaurants "theme park/casino" feel, they have used large black pipes to frame the stall walls and other decor elements. This is a creative touch. The restrooms have a lot of urinals and stalls for the numerous customers, and my favorite piece is the newly added foaming soap dispenser. This is wonderful and if you've never tried a foaming soap dispenser, it's time to go shopping because you can get them for your home. Apparently this is the same soap surgeons use.

Unfortunately, the traffic flow is absolutely destroyed by the sink area which is too narrow, thus preventing the masses from bothering. Frankly, I want restaraunts to encourage hand-washing. Also, the restrooms are virtually always a mess, even though there's always initials on the sheet of paper that shows who's inspected the restroom. Yes, I've seen the employees walk up from outside the restroom, initial, and leave without even looking inside.

Score:4.5 flushes for a nice start without follow through.

Let's Establish a Few Minor Rules

Do we all agree we want towels over air dryers? I think so.

Auto flush over having to put your hand on that wet, steel handle? Yes.

Toilet paper dispensers that allow for more than an inch between tears? Certainly.

Clean? Heck yes.

A sink that encourages hand washing? You know it.

A door that prevents people just outside the bathroom from knowing what digestion issues you are having? I think so.

Tricky questions:

The apple scent dispenser? Why do we want to smell food on the toilet?

Mood lighting. Nope. I want to see the darn toilet seat and any unfortunate attachments.

Cologne bottles, hair supplies, and a guy in a uniform? If the bathroom is large and roomy, I vote yes. A one stall 5' x 5' room. No. (See House of Blues Anaheim for an example, review for this facility will hopefully be soon as well.)

Lastly, can we all agree that he is a wonderful man that banned those hand-towel rolls where it's just a 6' loop of wet, disgusting towel shared by all.

Please let me know if you have any other thoughts to include in our basic rules. I would like to compile a list to establish a base score. Thanks all.
